The Catholic Women's League (CWL)
The Ivybridge Catholic Women's League section at St. Austin's Priory was started on 8th June, 1988 and has continued quite active through these years.
We acknowledge our reliance on God's great care enabling us to be of any use at all. By the Intercession of Our Lady and through the patronage of St Margaret Clitherow we carry on in areas that are spiritual, charitable, educational, and social and realising that these are interconnected.
We attend Mass as a group whenever possible - on the feast day of St. Margaret, 30th August and on our Annual Liturgy Day. Some members attend the yearly CWL Buckfast Pilgrimage and the CWL Branch retreat at St. Rita's Centre, Honiton.
Our aims of "work" and "charity" are addressed in these ways.
Our members present a Catholic presence in the town and are involved as volunteers in activities such as, The Dementia Society "Memory Cafe", Women's Institute, World Day of Prayer, Taize.
We provide refreshments at social and fundraising events, such as "September Song", Plymouth Catholic Choir Concert.
We hold a business meeting on the first Friday in each month at 11am at the Priory and often go out for lunch locally afterwards. Do consider joining us as we would extend a warm welcome!

St Margaret Clitherow
St Margaret was a 16th century convert and second wife of a butcher in York. She may have been pregnant in 1583 when she was executed for harbouring a priest and welcoming Holy Mass to be celebrated in her home. We honour her great sacrifice!
The CWL was founded by Margaret Fletcher.

PLYMOUTH CATHOLIC CHOIR
St. Augustine commented that "singing was praying twice". That being the case some of our parishioners are steeped in prayer! Four of our parishioners belong to the Plymouth Catholic Choir, who recently held a concert in the priory to raise funds for the repairs to the ceiling.
The Plymouth Catholic Choir is open to all, with practices at Our Lady of Lourdes, Plympton every Wednesday at 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm.
